OPOL  is developed for applications where another level of SKUs are called and control of this level of SKU inventory is needed.  Here the items stocked are variations of the basic part (e.g., size, color, model, accessory) and these are the SKUs of concern.  There are two or more SKUs of this type for each part-location combination.
OPOL is used in situations where the units are stocked in stores or distribution centers in various SKUs.  Examples are, a style shoe with various sizes, sweaters with different colors and sizes, various models and brands of a products (catsup, toothpaste, TV’s), accessory items on bicycles, and so forth.
